Spearmint: The Refreshing Staple of Herbal Smoking

Spearmint is the herb that makes a blend taste cold. It's the easiest flavor in the range to identify blind.

What it is

Mentha spicata is a herbaceous perennial native to Europe and Asia, and now growing more or less everywhere, usually more enthusiastically than anyone intended. It's the mint in most chewing gum, toothpaste and mint tea.

Worth distinguishing from peppermint. Peppermint is a hybrid with high menthol content, which is what makes it sharp and almost cold. Spearmint carries much less menthol and leads with carvone instead, which is why it reads as sweeter and rounder rather than piercing.

Taste and smoke

Cooling and sweet, close to mint tea. The smoke is light and smooth, which makes spearmint a good entry point for anyone new to herbal smoking.

What to pair it with

Lavender and chamomile for something softer and more floral. Sage and rosemary for an earthier, more robust mix, where the mint cuts the heaviness.

In our blends

Spearmint is in Dream Worker, with blue lotus, chamomile, licorice root, mugwort, mullein and sage. The mint and the licorice together are most of what gives that blend its character. Also as a loose blend.

Tea Tokes blends are tobacco-free and nicotine-free. 21+.
