The practice of smoking rose petals goes back centuries, and rose appears in the ritual traditions of a number of cultures. The flower has carried symbolic weight for a very long time, standing in for love, beauty and devotion depending on who you ask.

How to choose petals

This part matters more than people expect. Look for organically grown roses, since florist roses are among the most heavily sprayed cut flowers there are and you do not want to burn pesticide residue. Choose petals that are vibrant and still aromatic when dry. Unsprayed, non-hybridized varieties tend to carry more scent than showy hybrid blooms bred for appearance.
