Blue Lotus: A Flower With a Very Long History

Blue lotus is the most photographed thing we put in a blend, and the one with the longest paper trail.

The history

Nymphaea caerulea is a water lily native to the Nile. It appears throughout ancient Egyptian art, carved into temple columns and painted on tomb walls, and it held ceremonial significance in Egyptian religious practice. It turns up in the traditions of other cultures too. Few plants in the smoking world have a documentary record this old or this visual.

Taste and smoke

Smoked, blue lotus is delicately floral with a subtle earthy undertone. The smoke is smooth and the scent is heavy and sweet in a way that fills a room. It is not a background herb. A little goes a long way in a blend.

Other ways people use it

Blue lotus is also brewed as a tea, where the floral character comes through more softly, and it is sold in tincture form.
