Blue Cornflower: An Azure Adventure in Herbal Smoking

Blue cornflower earns its place in a blend partly on looks. There is almost nothing else in the plant world that shade of blue, and it survives drying better than most flowers do.

What it is

Centaurea cyanus was once a common weed in European grain fields, which is where the name comes from. Modern farming nearly wiped it out of the wild in parts of Europe, and it's now grown mostly in gardens and as a cut flower. It has a long history in European folk tradition.

Taste and smoke

Mild, subtly floral, faintly herbaceous. Cornflower is one of the quieter things you can put in a blend. It brings color and a soft floral edge rather than a flavor that announces itself.
